My intention with this post is not to say anything bad about etsy, but to inform you why I am leaving this marketplace.

Context

I decided to sell on etsy because…

*Etsy is a marketplace that values crafts, so unlike many marketplaces or google, etsy is ideal for promoting and selling the creations of artisans and artists.

*Etsy is a filter that helps small artisanal cosmetic brands like mine. People who value crafts know that on etsy, they will find their happiness.

*Etsy helps to achieve international visibility, especially in Europe and the United States. In my case, Etsy has allowed me to sell in other European countries.

So why am I leaving the platform?

*Etsy has its own rules and you must follow them or be penalized.

In addition to the charges that are not negligible, the main reason why I leave etsy is that it prohibits me to sell my products because they contain Mimosa Tenuiflora, also known as Tepezcohuite.

Tepezcohuite is a cosmetic active ingredient derived from the bark of the mimosa Tenuiflora, a tree of Mexican origin known as the skin tree. Because of its regenerative properties, it is widely used in pharmacy. Moreover, its roots are considered as hallucinogens.

So what? you might say. We find cosmetic products containing alcohol while the sale of alcohol is prohibited on etsy. There are also products based on hemp oil. There are even many sellers of Tepezcohuite or cosmetic products based on Tepezcohuite.

Despite all this, Etsy is threatening to remove all my other products with this ingredient. So he invites me to do it myself. My entire line being based on this ingredient, this is an invitation to leave the platform.

However, the direct claims of my products remain within the scope of cosmetics. I only use the powder from the bark of the tree (therefore not hallucinogenic), and each of my products is verified and analyzed by professionals in the field to ensure the safety of my customers (toxicologist & laboratory). Honestly, I didn’t expect to have this type of problem with etsy.

I made a claim to clarify the confusion but…

Etsy doesn’t want to hear that. These are their rules and they are not going to change their minds. However, when you type Tepezcoohuite on Etsy, you find many sellers, present for a long time as evidenced by the number of reviews. The raw ingredient is sold. So I’m somewhat angry that the application of the rules is ambiguous and there seems to be a double standard.

Fortunately, I have my own website managed by myself. You can place your orders directly on this one. The payment system is based on payplug in collaboration with the Banque Populaire, so very secure management and independent of my site.

The rest of this story…

Now I am more motivated than ever to work on the multilingual version of my online store.

If you want to support this project and the brand, share with your friends, it’s important.

See you soon.
